Lettuce

Doesn't this lettuce look lovely and luscious?

Don't be deceived. It's as bitter as a jilted woman.

Lettuce likes cool weather. Greens that were cheery and refreshing in the spring have turned sour under hot prairie winds and a relentless Midwestern sun.

Our souls can be like that. Fresh, tender and delightful when times are easy; distinctly hard and biting when life's fire and tribulation press in. All hidden beneath a lovely exterior.

Lord, help me to refresh even in the midst of the fire.

But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Mt. 11:20-23

Isn't it amazing how many spiritual parallels there are in a garden? I learned a lot about that when I worked at First Fruits.
Amen, to submit to the Refiner and Purifier of silver, and be still until His image and likeness is reflected from us!
